  5. Welcome to the Express Meter Working Model!
  6.  
  7. Express Meter is a license management system that optimizes your
  8. organization's software usage: it lets you dramatically reduce your license
  9. needs, while ensuring that you're complying with your software license
  10. agreements.  It does this by fully exploiting the "concurrent licensing"
  11. provisions in the software license agreements of most popular applications.

  15. license assignments continually in response to changing user needs.  Using this

  58. Here's how to install the Express Systems Express Meter Working Model.
  59.  
  60.     1. The working model will require 2 MB of local hard disk space.  Make
  61.     sure you have at least this much space before you start.  (The working
  62.     model does not require any server disk space).
  63.  
  64.     2. Make sure you have compatible versions of MICROMAN.EXE and
  65.     HDCLIB.DLL. To see what versions you currently have, type "microman -d"
  66.     at the DOS prompt.  You should get a message indicating the version of
  67.     MicroMan and hDCLib that you have on your computer.  If you get "Bad
  68.     command or filename", or if the hDCLib version is less than 322,
  69.     (shown as "0x0322") then you need newer versions of these files.

  71.     To get the latest versions of MicroMan and hDCLib, look for a file
  72.     called HDCxxx.ZIP (where xxx is a version number which is at least
  73.     322) in the place where you got this file.    If you cannot find this
  74.     file, it can be downloaded from the Express Systems bulletin board at 
  75.     206.728.8302 (2400 baud, 8,n,1) or you can order it from Express Systems 
  76.     Customer Service at 206.728.8300 (for a $7 shipping and handling fee).

  78.     Once you have the new files, copy them over your old files.
  79.  
  80.         IF YOU ARE UPGRADING FROM PREVIOUS VERSIONS OF MICROMAN AND HDCLIB
  81.         ------------------------------------------------------------------
  82.         A. If you do not wish to lose your system menu configuration and
  83.         preferences such as the MicroApp path, do NOT overwrite your
  84.         existing MICROMAN.PRF file.
  85.  
  86.         B. If you're using an international language version of an Express 
  87.     Systems product, please note that overwriting HDCLIB.DLL will cause 
  88.     some error messages to appear in English instead of the language of 
  89.     the international version.  Your international product will not
  90.         otherwise be affected.
  91.  
  92.     3. If you are running Windows 3.0 (as opposed to Windows 3.1) then
  93.     you will need the following files: SHELL.DLL, COMMDLG.DLL, and
  94.     DDEML.DLL.  Check your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory to see if you already
  95.     have a copy of these files.  If not, contact Microsoft to see how to
  96.     obtain a copy.

  98.     4. Create a directory named C:\EMWM, and copy the EMWM.EXE file to
  99.     this directory.

  101.     5. EMWM.EXE is a self-extracting archive; run it from DOS or from
  102.     File Manager to decompress the files included in the archive.

  104.     6. Installation is complete!  Run APPLIBED.EXE to start exploring
  105.     Express Meter, or run EMAK.EXE for more information on licensing
  106.     issues and on Express Meter.  If you have any questions on the

  116. using your software licenses legally and exactly how many licenses you
